Crows and Poets

People ask me why I place a crow in our logo. For me Crows captures the imaginative and enigmatic qualities associated with poets. Here are several reasons why this comparison is compelling:

  1. Intelligence and Problem-Solving:
  • Crows are among the most intelligent birds, known for their problem-solving abilities and complex social behaviors. This intelligence can be seen as akin to the creativity and depth of thought found in poets.
  1. Symbolism and Mystery:
  • In literature and mythology, crows often symbolize mystery, transformation, and the unknown. Poets, similarly, delve into the mysteries of life, exploring themes that transcend ordinary understanding.
  1. Vocalization and Expression:
  • Crows are known for their diverse vocalizations and ability to mimic sounds, much like poets use language in innovative and expressive ways to convey emotions and ideas.
  1. Observation and Insight:
  • Crows are keen observers of their environment, capable of recognizing faces and remembering human behavior. Poets, too, are keen observers of human nature and the world around them, drawing deep insights from their observations.
  1. Duality and Complexity:
  • Crows embody a duality; they are seen as both ominous and wise. Poets often embrace duality and complexity in their work, exploring the light and dark aspects of existence.
  1. Adaptability and Survival:
  • Crows are highly adaptable and thrive in various environments, showing resilience and resourcefulness. Poets, through their words, often adapt to different themes and styles, demonstrating a similar versatility and resilience.

By considering these characteristics, it’s clear why crows can be seen as poetic creatures. Their intelligence, expressive abilities, symbolic resonance, observational skills, complexity, and adaptability mirror the qualities we admire in poets.
